review 1: I'm sorry but this book was v. depressing as well as creepy. A woman abandons her little boy at the train station? It pretty much lost me there & went steadily downhill after that! Btw,I've read plenty of WW2 novels from the Average German Viewpoint so it wasn't that("Stones From The River" being one example) but that book had sympathetic characters in it & wasn't so "Sturm Und Drang". A superb book; can't say that I "liked" it; difficult subject matter/well done.
Fantastic, one of the best books I have ever read.
Rather slow and disappointing.
Good book, but sad.
